More information
Council has received several requests for a pedestrian crossing in the vicinity of the bend near #1 Avon Road. Pedestrian counts were recently undertaken, which showed that over 50 pedestrians crossed Avon Road in the vicinity of the bend between 7.30am and 8.30am on a weekday.
Proposed changes
There is an existing crossing point with kerb ramps on Avon Road just to the east of the bend, which is where the footpath on both sides of the road ends. This is the proposed location of the Wombat crossing. Sight distance for approaching motorists is good in both directions at this location. The apartment complex at #1 Avon Road has many units, and the proposed location of the crossing would be on the desire line from the pedestrian access to the units. The crossing would also be on the desire line for pedestrians walking up Avon Road from Arilla Road.

Please note:
Council previously completed two stages of community consultation regarding a proposed raised pedestrian crossing at a different location on Avon Rd, Pymble. The crossing had been proposed to be near Gate 3 of Pymble Ladies' College (PLC).
Based on feedback received over both consultation stages, the crossing near Gate 3 of PLC will not be proceeding. For more information on the consultation undertaken, see the webpage.
The current proposal is for a crossing near 1 Avon Rd. This is a new site that is being considered, based on a different set of pedestrian counts and community feedback.
