Avon Road, Pymble - Proposed raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing

Project Overview

Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to build a raised pedestrian (wombat) crossing on Avon Road near Gate 3 of Pymble Ladies College (PLC)

Background

There is currently no pedestrian crossing to access PLC via Gate 3, which is one of the main entry points for students and staff. Pedestrian counts undertaken in late July 2025, showed a significant number of pedestrians crossing Avon Road in the vicinity of Gate 3 during school drop-off and pick-up times. Traffic volumes on Avon Road are heavy during these times, making it difficult for pedestrians to safely cross the road.

What's being proposed

A new raised pedestrian crossing is proposed on Avon Road to the north of Gate 3. The works would also include an upgrade of the street lighting to meet current standards for a pedestrian crossing, as shown in the concept plan below.

The proposed changes would result in the loss of 4 full-time on-street parking spaces and 1 part-time space along the PLC frontage of Avon Road. It would also result in the loss of 4 part-time on-street parking spaces on the residential side of Avon Road.
