Background
Ku-ring-gai's Public Domain Plans guide the design of streets, footpaths and public spaces in the Local Centres, supported by the Community Strategic Plan, the Local Strategic Planning Statement and the Development Control Plan. Six centres already have adopted plans: Turramurra, Gordon, Lindfield, St Ives, Pymble and Roseville.
What's happening?
New planning controls introduced by the NSW Government have enabled more low and mid-rise housing to be built on residential land within 800m of Wahroonga town centre under the Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy.
Council is now preparing a Draft Wahroonga Concept Public Domain Plan, focused on the streets and public spaces immediately around Wahroonga Station. The plan will set a vision for the centre, including design principles and a high-level concept for footpaths, streetscapes and public space upgrades to support increased housing. It will also help Council plan for development contributions and pursue funding, including state government grants, to deliver public domain improvements over time.
As a detailed transport impact study has not yet been completed for Wahroonga, this first stage is a concept plan focused on the core of the centre around the station. A more detailed plan, similar to those already adopted for centres like Turramurra and Gordon, will follow once a transport study is complete.
Have your say
This is the first of two engagement phases for the Wahroonga Concept Public Domain Plan. We want to hear from the community now, while the plan is still being shaped, so this feedback can directly influence the design principles and concept plan before it goes to public exhibition. There will be a further opportunity to comment once the draft concept plan is released for Phase 2 Public Exhibition, but input at this early stage helps set the direction the plan takes from the outset.
Feedback for this stage of consultation is open from 21 August to 18 September 2026.
