On-street electric vehicle (EV) charging locations in Gordon and Killara

Project update

At the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 17 February 2026, Council approved the development and installation of chargers at the following locations, subject to the necessary assessments and approvals and negotiation of commercial terms required:

  • 1 Merriwa Street, Gordon (1 bay)
  • 22 McIntyre Street, Gordon (1 bay)
  • 11 Moree Street, Gordon (2 bays)
  • 2A Ravenswood Ave, Gordon (1 bay)
  • 8 Bruce Ave, Killara (1 bay)
  • Opposite 35 Lorne Ave, Killara  (2 bays)
  • Opposite 1 Lorne Ave, Killara (1 bay)
  • Opposite 1 Marian Street, Killara (1 bay)
  • 30 Marian Street, Killara (1 bay)
  • 1-9 Buckingham Road, Killara (2 bays)

Council also resolved in principle to the installation and operation of other public EV Charging Stations from accredited suppliers of public EV Charging Stations in suitable locations across the Ku-ring-gai local government area subject to appropriate community consultation being carried out in the first instance.

Ku-ring-gai Council is seeking your feedback on proposed on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging locations in Lindfield, East Lindfield and Roseville.

We're inviting residents, business owners, and visitors to review and comment on the proposed EV charger sites to ensure they best meet the needs of the local community.

What is being proposed?

Two experienced EV Charge Point Operators (CPOs) - ChargePost and Plus ES - have received NSW Government funding to install on-street pole-mounted chargers across Ku-ring-gai. On-street EV charging refers to chargers accessible from the street and are installed on power poles.

These chargers will:

  • Be fully funded by NSW Government and CPO Operators -no cost to Council or ratepayers
  • Operate on a user-pays model, with prices set by the provider
  • Be located in areas where people typically park for 2+ hours
  • Be installed in existing public parking spaces
  • Provide up to 22 kW of power
  • Use Type 2 connectors (bring your own cable)
  • Be a single or dual bay charger, depending on the location.

Why is this project happening?

Electric vehicle ownership is growing rapidly across Ku-ring-gai, with many residents making the switch to cleaner, more efficient transport. As of July 2025, more than 1 in 20 vehicles in Ku-ring-gai are now electric,more than three times the state average. However, not everyone has access to home charging,especially:

  • Apartment or townhouse residents
  • Renters without garage access
  • Households with only on-street parking
  • Visitors to the area

On-street EV charging will help close this gap, making EV use more accessible to all residents.

These spaces will be designated for EVs, and the number of spaces will reflect the mix of non-EV and EV vehicles.

All chargers are rated up to 22 kW AC. However, depending on the type of EV you have, you may only be able to receive 7 or 11 kW.

Single and dual bay chargers will be proposed.

A single bay charger has a single port, meaning it can accommodate only one charging vehicle. There will be one parking bay marked ‘EV only while charging’.

A dual bay charger has two ports and can accommodate two charging vehicles simultaneously. Two bays will be marked ‘EV only while charging’.

Yes, all chargers will be powered by 100% renewable electricity.

The charge point operators, Plus ES and ChargePost, will be responsible for the maintenance of these chargers.

All pricing will be set by the charge point operators.

These chargers are fully funded by the NSW Government and charge point operators – there is no cost to Council to install the chargers.

All proposed locations are in free parking areas. Fees for charging may apply and are set by the charge point operator.

Electric Vehicles must be charging while parking. Fines may be issued for those who do not comply.

All proposals are 'EV only while charging'. Time restrictions may apply. Please refer to the links under ‘Location details’ for location specific information.

The total number of parking spaces will remain the same,. The proposals will be marked 'EV only while charging' and some may have time restrictions.
